When thinking harder doesn’t help

You may have thought about it endlessly, talked it through with other people or tried different ways of dealing with it. And yet you still feel stuck.

Systemic Mapping offers a different way of looking at what’s happening.

In a one-to-one session, we take the situation out of your head and map it in front of you. By exploring the people, relationships and other factors involved, we can often see patterns and dynamics that are much harder to recognise when you’re caught up inside them.

The aim isn’t to tell you what to do. It’s to help you see the situation differently, so that new possibilities can emerge.

What can I bring to a session?

You don’t need to arrive with a perfectly defined problem. You might want to explore:

  • A relationship that feels difficult or stuck

  • A decision you can’t seem to make

  • A situation that keeps repeating itself

  • A family or work situation you don’t fully understand

  • A conflict or tension you can’t resolve

  • A feeling that something isn’t right, even though you can’t quite put your finger on why

If there’s something you keep going round in circles with, that’s usually enough to start.

What happens in a Systemic Mapping session?

We talk

We begin by talking briefly about the situation you want to explore.

1

We map it

We create a physical map using objects or markers to represent the people and other important parts of the situation.

2

We explore

We look at relationships, distances, tensions and connections, and notice what changes when we move things around.

3

You gain a new perspective

The map can reveal patterns and dynamics that are difficult to see from inside the situation, opening up new possibilities for how to move forward.

4

Where does Systemic Mapping come from?

My approach draws particularly on systemic thinking and Family Constellations, a way of exploring relationships and patterns by looking at the wider system rather than at one person or problem in isolation.

I call my approach Systemic Mapping because that describes very simply what we do: we map the situation so that you can see it from a different perspective.

About me

I’m Barnaby Griffiths. I've spent much of my professional life working one-to-one with people, helping them communicate more effectively, see situations differently and find their own way forward.

My work with Systemic Mapping grew out of my training and experience in systemic and constellation work and my longstanding interest in what happens when we stop concentrating solely on the apparent problem and look at the relationships around it.

My style is practical, conversational and grounded.
